We met with Leticia Esquivel, MNLC's Mental Health Program Director, and Bita Hedayati, who is researching youth integration into Canada. Our conversations focused on immigration's impact on mental health and youth empowerment. We also supported their application to the Youth Mental Health Fund to better serve immigrant youth.

Christian Julien
Toronto, Ontario
We met with Christian Julien, an immigration lawyer at Kingwell Law, to discuss the legal challenges faced by student immigrants in Canada. He provided insight into issues such as study permit restrictions, work limitations, and the lack of clear pathways to permanent residency—all of which can create long-term barriers to stability and integration.

Samera Center for Democracy
Toronto, Ontario
We met with Alex MacIsaac, Senior Research Coordinator at the Samara Centre for Democracy and former project lead of the SAMBot project, a machine learning software that detects hate language online during election cycles. Our conversation focused on the rise of anti-immigration sentiment during elections, and we contributed insight into commonly used coded terms and slurs to support the tool’s linguistic training.

We presented at the Canada Youth Club Summit and were awarded the Top Changemaker Award, receiving a $1,500 prize in recognition of our impact.

Toronto, Ontario
We met with Peter L. Biron, an adjunct professor of law at the University of Toronto and founder of Section One, to discuss recent shifts in Canada’s immigration policy, including increased scrutiny of international student programs, and how these changes shape public perception and policy responses toward student immigrants.
